HISTORY:
At first, JIST, Japan Interaction in Science and Technology Forum was founded
on the basis of The Society of Interdisciplinary Science and Technology.
The earlier Society consisted of voluntary participants from academic,
public and business sectors and was involved in the organization of over
200 lectures and symposiums over a 10-year period, many involving global
academic exchange and intellectual activities.
With the approach of
the 21st century, there was a need to further expand the society functions and
promote engineering from an integrated perspective, while questioning the
role of science and technology in its relationship to humanity. Thanks
to the contributions of Messrs. Shigetaro Nomizu and Takeo Suzuki, prime
ministerial approval was given for the establishment of JIST as a non-profit
foundation on September 1, 1995, in accordance with the provisions of Articles
34 of the Civil Law, under authority of the Science and Technology Agency
of Japanese Government.
But following the
review of all the foundations by the Government, FIST has newly started as a
public service corporation under the control of the cabinet office in April 1,
2012.
